The Historical Society was established in 1971. The guiding force behind the organization was Gladys Bickford. There were 52 Charter Members at the first meeting. At this time we have 120 members. The schoolhouse on Dane road was the logical space to house this new organization. The last school year was 1967, so the building was available.
The Town of Center Harbor owns the schoolhouse building and symbolically “rents” the space to the society for $1.00 a year. The society is responsible for the maintenance of the building.
The purpose of the Centre Harbor Historical Society is the collection and preservation of objects and facts of historical interest to the town of Center Harbor, New Hampshire.
We also participate in projects designed to preserve or improve the town’s historical image.
